Previewing Baton Rouge Super Regional
For the second straight season, the LSU Tigers are in a Super Regional and so is Mississippi State. The common thread between the two is a former LSU assistant that now occupies the other dugout.
Back so soon is first year head man of the Bulldogs Andy Cannizaro who left Baton Rouge in November to replace John Cohen at MSU. All he did in his inaugural season in Starkville was lead his new team back to the Supers for the right to go to Omaha in a different jersey.
Just because Cannizaro is an old friend doesn’t mean LSU is going to be doing him any favors although he’s more than prepared for this weekend’s homecoming at the Box. Mississippi State Head Baseball Coach Andy Cannizaro said, “LSU is a special place like everybody knows it is, and the national championships and the crowds and the stadiums and it’s an electric place and they’ve earned that right with their titles, with their program and it’s going to be an incredible atmosphere next weekend, but the cool part about it is, our guys are ready for it.”
LSU Head Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri said, “It happens to be Mississippi State, it happens to be coached by Andy Cannizaro but they’re the ones that are standing in our way to get to Omaha.”
Both teams got swept in the Super Regionals last year with LSU losing to eventual national champion Coastal Carolina.
