MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Winston County

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Winston County Sheriff’s Office that occurred on Sunday.

A Winston County deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver fled and led the deputy on a brief pursuit before stopping in Neshoba County. When approaching the vehicle, the deputy fired his weapon, striking the driver, who was taken to a local hospital with non-lite-threatening injury.

The deputy did not receive any serious physical injuries.

A weapon was recovered from the vehicle and the incident is believed to be captured on the deputy’s body warn camera.

This information is preliminary and subject to change.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence.

Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
