01/21 Ryan’s “Snow Day” Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

It's a rare snow day in South MS, with little ice development, but several inches of dry, picture perfect snow.

It began snowing at about 5:30 AM, ushering in a rare snow day in South MS, and it continues heavily as I’m writing this. Upwards of 4.5″ inches has already fallen in our deepest areas, with the more shallow pulling up the low end of the estimate at 2″. We still have around 5 or more hours left of snowfall as it slowly tapers off, so continue to enjoy the snow safely and avoid the roadways unless you must travel. It gets even colder over night though, with air temps falling into the low-to-mid teens and wind chills in the single digits. This will keep any slick/icy issues lingering well into the morning, but they shouldn’t last much longer than that as above-freezing temperatures return as soon as tomorrow afternoon.
