President Biden visits New Orleans in the aftermath of New Year’s Day attack

On Monday afternoon President Biden and the First Lady touched down on the tarmac at the Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans.

The President traveled to the the city in the wake of the New Year’s Day terror attack, which left 14 dead and several more injured after a truck drove through Bourbon Street.

President Biden and the First Lady made their first stop at the Bourbon Street Memorial at the site of last week’s attack in the French Quarter, both paying their respects to the victims lost.

Afterwards, President Biden attended an interfaith prayer service held in the St. Louis Cathedral, where the President addressed the public and consoled those left to pick up the pieces after losing their loved ones.

“To the families left behind, we know from some experience that it’s hard.  But I promise you the day will come, when you pass that park, open that closet door, smell that fragrance, just remember that laugh, when the memory of your loved one will bring a smile to your lips before a tear to your eye. It will take time but I promise you, I promise you it will come.”

President Biden then spoke on the strength of New Orleans, and his belief that the city will bounce back stronger than ever.

“If there’s one thing we know, New Orleans defines strength and resilience. Whether it’s in the form of this attack, or hurricanes, or superstorms, this city and its people get back up.”
