Saints fire Dennis Allen after 7th straight loss

The New Orleans Saints have fired head coach Coach Dennis Allen after the team’s seventh loss.
The Saints lost to the Carolina Panthers 23-22 on Sunday.
Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi has been named the interim coach, according to a release from the Saints.
Allen, who was elevated to head coach in 2022 when Sean Payton left the staff, compiled a 2-7 record this season and 18-25 as the Saints’ 17th head coach.
This was Allen’s second head coaching stint and second firing — he was let go from the Oakland Raiders in 2014 after a 0-4 start.
“Dennis has been a part of our organization for many years. He is highly regarded within the NFL. He has been extremely loyal and professional and most importantly an excellent football coach for us,” said Saints owner Gayle Benson. “However, this decision is something that I felt we needed to make at this time.
“I wish nothing but the best in the future for Dennis and his family. He will always be considered in the highest regard by me and everyone within our organization.”
General Manager Mickey Loomis said Allen will be missed within the organization.
“DA is an excellent football coach,” said Loomis. “This season, we have had an avalanche of injuries. It took its toll. DA has never offered excuses, he fought each day for this organization and this team and that is what makes today disappointing.
“Dennis has been an integral part of this organization’s success for the better part of 20 years. He will be missed.”
