The coroner said Deschamp was experiencing respiratory issues after a race and said the death is from natural causes.

It is the second issue involving a jockey at the fair. A Philadelphia man was injured when his horse ran into a fence at the turn of the racetrack. The horse flipped and the jockey was caught underneath He has since been released from the hospital in Jackson.

Friends who posted on Deschamp’s social media pages said he won his race Wednesday.

Leigh McDaniel of Neshoba Racing posted a tribute to Deschamp: “Today we lost a legend who I won’t even attempt to name all the accomplishments and wins he has made.

“I believe he would want everyone to remember him for all the amazing times he had on the track. I know he was met at the gates of Heaven by others we lost too soon, welcoming him with open arms.”
