Palm Trees coming to Biloxi beachfront as part of ongoing beautification efforts
HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Palm trees are heading to the Biloxi beachfront as Harrison County works to enhance one of the Coast’s most popular destinations.
The Biloxi Beachfront is getting a little greener.
The Harrison County Sand Beach Department is working to install palm trees along the beachfront, adding to the tropical look and feel of the area. Sand Beach Director Trey McKnight said, “The work that is taking place now is a continuation of a revitalization of an area around the Biloxi Lighthouse and the I-110 loop. When I came on in 2024, Supervisor Dan Cuevas expressed his interest in beautifying this area and making sure we’re presenting the best of Harrison County in the Biloxi area here. With the I-110 loop here and the Biloxi Lighthouse is sort of a gateway for Harrison County and for Biloxi in general. So, we want to make sure that we are putting forth the best image and presentation for guests and also residents alike.”
The new palm trees are just one part of a broader effort to enhance Fred Haise Landing and keep the beachfront looking its best. As a popular gathering space and first impression for many visitors, officials say the area plays an important role in showcasing Biloxi’s coastal beauty. “This phase is heavily landscaping based. We put in some new trees. We planted around 15 yesterday; we’re building landscape boxes now and will continue to do so over the next few weeks. In the past year, we have made improvements to the pier, lighting upgrades, and welcome signs. It’s all come full circle and we look to have a close out on the western end of the parking lot very soon. We’ll be doing some more landscaping upgrades and we’ve been able to partner with the new Biloxi Beautification Commission to get some of those projects underway. I think it’s really important that we have a nice clean environment for them to come and feel welcome and to enjoy the beautiful view. It’s great timing, it’s kind of coinciding with our beach restoration project as well with our partnership with the Corps of Engineers. There is a lot more to come with that. All in all, it’s looking to be a lot of small projects that are going to add up for one big vision and it’s going to look great when we are done.”
