Moss Point School District hosts Back to School Rally
The Moss Point School District geared up for the first day of classes with a Back to School Rally at Jerry Alexander Stadium on Thursday evening.
The hour-long event gave students and their families opportunities to connect with each other and met school administrators.
Students also had the chance to pick up plenty of free school supplies. Nearly three dozen vendors were set up around the football field, ranging from Mississippi Gulf Coast businesses to Moss Point High School alumni groups.
The Back to School Rally has been held for several years now, and as Moss Point School District Superintendent Dr. Oswago Harper explained, it goes a long way in helping the district’s students maintain success.
“Well, it’s all about ensuring that our children have everything that they need to be successful,” Harper said. “This is just one of the thing — almost a philanthropic thing — that we do to pour into our children, pour into our community. We don’t want any distractions, or any dilemmas for that matter, that will stop them from getting a quality tier one education.”
Despite some heavy rain that came through the area at the start of the event, the Back to School Rally drew a large crowd. In fact, a line began forming at the entrance to the field an hour before it opened.
Moss Point School District will begin its first day of classes next Tuesday.
