Wiggins Community Facing Increase in Scams

The city of Wiggins has seen an uptick in electronic scams.

According to an alert issued on Facebook by the Wiggins Police Department, citizens have recently felt the impacts of finance scams, romance scams, credit card scams and internet fraud.

Victims have reportedly been targeted by scammers through phone calls, emails and even messages sent over social media sites.

Scammers usually ask for personal information and may demand that victims send money using bank transfers, credit card purchases or postal services.

These scams might sound real, but WPD emphasizes that no federal agency or local government entity will ever ask citizens for money online or over the phone.

Anyone who believes that they are being targeted by a potential scammer is advised to call the Wiggins Police Department at (601) 928-5444 before giving away personal information or sending funds. Callers can specifically ask for assistance from Lieutenant Dave Roberts or Ron Gardner.
