‘Safer Act’ bill signed by Governor Tate Reeves

Governor Tate Reeves signs Senate Bill 2753, also known as the Safer Act, into law today.
The bill sets new guidelines and restrictions on which bathrooms transgender people in Mississippi can use in public buildings.
Most notably, the bill says anyone that is male or female ‘as observed or clinically verified at birth,’ must use the facilities corresponding to their biological sex.
The bill also requires public buildings have restrooms or changing areas designated for men only, women only, or single-person spaces usable by anyone.
It also allows anyone to sue a person who uses a facility that does not match their sex at birth.
In a statement on his Facebook page earlier today, Governor Reeves says the Safer Act is “a win for girls and women across the state.”
He also thanked girls and women across Mississippi who stood up and made their voices heard.
