State Senate bill would require driver’s education program

An act is headed to the Mississippi State Senate that would require any school district that has a secondary school to establish and maintain driver education and training programs.

Senate Bill 2695 was authored by State Senator Dennis DeBar Jr. of District 43.

The act would amend a section of the Mississippi Code of 1972, the state superintendent of education and the commissioner of public safety would jointly prepare and recommend courses to the State Board of Education.

The new bill would also make it so a student will not be required to have a learner’s permit or driver’s license while under the supervision of an instructor.
