Mississippi schools hosting inaugural golf tournament
The nation’s top college golf programs will compete on the Mississippi Gulf Coast later this month.
The University of Mississippi, Mississippi State, and the University of Southern Mississippi are teaming up to host the inaugural Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational that will run from October 14th through the 17th.
The three day 54-hole tournament will kick off with a college game day atmosphere with family fun, food trucks, and a tailgate party on the finishing hole while the Saints play.
Six student athletes will compete from the three hosting teams.
Auburn, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Wisconsin, University of Kansas, UCF, Colorado, Iowa, and Southern Methodist University will also have athletes competing.
Ole Miss Head Golf Coach Chris Malloy was at the Beau Rivage earlier today, and he says he’s excited to showcase the Mississippi hospitality to all the talented programs.
“I think it means everything to have Southern Miss and Mississippi State helping us host this event. I know we’re all really excited about it,” said Malloy. “Each of us have a passionate fan base that’s down here on the coast, and listen it’s easy… we play in the football games, basketball games, and so many home events in Oxford and it’s nice to get out to a different part of the state and see a different part of the fan base.”
All of the student athletes will be competing for both team and individual championships.
