Teens getting involved with St. Martin Public Library
The St. Martin Public Library is giving the youth and the community more opportunities to get involved with volunteering.
The first Tuesday of every month at 4:30 p.m., the St. Martin Public Library will be having its teen advisory board committee.
The committee will be volunteering their time putting together new programs they would like to see at the library while also doing community service work.
High school students can use these volunteer hours for any special honors or achievements they are seeking.
Leaders at St. Martin Library say it is great leadership experience for the youth. Youth Services Library Assistant Monique Stevenson said, “It’s character building and it helps our teens. It helps people in general to learn about other people and be exposed to different types of cultures and things.”
Branch Manager Amber Schulze said, “Whenever we get the youth into the library so many people don’t really appreciate the library like they used to. They think ‘oh, it’s just books,’ but there’s so much more here we can offer and once we get those people into the library, they see how important everything here is.”
The first teen advisory board met yesterday afternoon with the next meeting scheduled for October 3rd.
