Gulfport honors Memorial Health System’s 80 years of service on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- The City of Gulfport is celebrating a major milestone for one of the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s largest healthcare providers.

City leaders honored Memorial Health System as it marks its 80th anniversary of serving the community.

Founded in 1946 through a partnership between the City of Gulfport and the Harrison County Board of Supervisors, Memorial has spent eight decades expanding its reach along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Memorial leaders say the system’s growth reflects its continued commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the Gulf Coast while expanding services throughout the region.  Angie Juzang with Memorial Health System said, “So, now we have three hospitals, over a hundred clinics, nursing homes, surgery centers. So, I think when they entered into the agreement in 1946, they definitely were looking at the needs of the immediate community, but it was always meant to grow into a regional powerhouse in the way that we are now. We have a celebration on Thursday beginning at 4:30pm. We are going to bury a time capsule which is a tradition for us every few years, and then raise an 80th anniversary flag and then we’re opening it up to the community for some food, and music, and fun at our medical office building.”

As part of the celebration, Memorial is inviting the community to attend and look towards the future while honoring the past.
