Gulfport Fire Department Fundraiser

If there’s a need in the community, the Descher Organization jumps on any opportunity to help.
Tonight, it was the Gulfport Fire Department who needed the support. From 5 to 7 p.m. at the McDonald’s on Highway 49, firefighters spent time with their community by teaching children about fire safety. In return, they welcomed donations to help them further protect the city.
A seven foot tall replica fireman was there. Deputy Chief Hank Levins tells News 25 it’s important to let children know firemen are in the community to help. “We brought out our mannequin that we have fully outfitted so that children can see what a firefighter looks like in a time of need so that if we do have to go in for a rescue, they understand what it looks like and they’re not scared and they’re not going to run away from us. So, that is part of the public education that we’re trying to get out tonight.”
The fire department also handed out fire hats and safety booklets to children who came out in support.
