Emergency Street Paving in Biloxi

When it comes to expressing their concerns on the ongoing infrastructure project, east Biloxi residents are not shy. Many residents said that they would welcome any kind of relief to make their roads smoother. That relief could be coming sooner than later.
Cruising at a snail’s pace and dodging pot holes for a whole year is no way to drive home but it’s the predicament many residents in east Biloxi find themselves in day after day. Resident Lenard Davis said, “It’s rough. We’re breathing dust every day. Tearing up your cars and we have to go through all these pot holes when it rains, we not getting no help down here.”
East Biloxi resident Donna Jackson is so fed up with the headache of maneuvering down her road, some days she walks instead. “I’m walking so I can preserve my car because down there, it’s ridiculous.”
No matter what the weather is like, there’s no relief when driving up and down the roads. If it’s raining, there are puddles and there’s mud. If it’s dry conditions, the dust seems to be the biggest problem.
Nearly three weeks ago, the council tabled a motion by Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich to temporarily pave seven east Biloxi roads. They wanted time to make sure it was legal to do so under their current contract. Now that the details have been worked out, Mayor Gilich will once again make the proposal to pave those roads using $600,000 in previously set aside funds. Biloxi Councilman Felix Gines said, “That’s the whole idea of doing that is giving some relief to our community, giving some form of quality of life to our business people and our homeowners because it’s ultimately about our citizens.”
“Well, that’s better than nothing. It would be nice to get something done, you know? Because every day we go through the same stuff. It don’t make any sense,” said Davis.
