SHEA Community Baby Shower to help new and expecting mothers
South Mississippi moms received a wealth of knowledge after attending a local baby shower in Gulfport.
The Mississippi Public Health Institute held a community baby shower on Saturday as part of its sharing health and awareness campaign.
Attendees also had access to information and guidance on various topics, such as breastfeeding, performing CPR on infants, staying active, and the importance of getting vaccinated against the flu.
The event aims to provide new and expectant mothers with valuable resources for their babies. Program Manager Kezi Jones said, “Our project is focused on reducing health disparities in African American women of child-bearing ages in Jackson, Harrison, and Hancock County. So, those disparity, healthy disparity rates, and rates of chronic diseases inspired our event. So, all of our resources today are dedicated to nutrition efforts, tobacco cessation, active living, and community clinical linkages.”
The community baby shower was held in public for the first time since the pandemic.
