8/17 – The Chief’s “Manageable Heat Index” Thursday Morning Forecast

Temperatures are mild across the area this morning below average for some. There is a stationary front to the south of the area; it is keeping moisture well to the south as very, very strong dry air continues to move in to the area. Due to this feature rain chances are very low to non-existent for the area. Although not as low as yesterday dew points will be lower keeping “feel like” temperatures manageable in the mid/upper 90s.  Friday temperatures are back in the upper 90s however humidity may be low enough to where a heat advisory is not necessary.

The weekend will be hot, again. Temperatures will be in the mid and upper 90s across much of the area both Saturday and Sunday. Dew points will return to the mid and upper 70s, producing heat index values above 110 across much of the area. Heat Advisories and/or Excessive Heat Warnings are likely to be necessary both Saturday and Sunday for much or all of the area. On Sunday we could see a stray shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon to bring some relief to the oppressive heat.

Tropical downpours are a possible as we start the workweek. This is due to a disturbance that will move NW through the Gulf of Mexico bringing moisture into the area aiding in rain chances. Temperatures will be closer to average on Monday, however quite humid. By Wednesday tropical downpours will dissipate to just afternoon thunderstorms.
