Gulfport and Biloxi exploring alternatives to AMR
Gulfport and Biloxi city leaders are asking the Harrison County Board of Supervisors to explore alternatives to AMR as the contract comes up for renewal next year.
Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes and Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich met today with supervisors to discuss issues with American Medical Response, the emergency medical service vendor for the county.
The mayors asked for a proposal on the matter to explore other options for the best response time for their citizens.
Harrison County’s contract with AMR ends in January 2024.
The contract calls for a response time within a 10-minute window of being dispatched. However, Hewes said one instance was more than 30 minutes.
Steve Delahoussay, a consultant for AMR, said the company has meetings with city leaders to resolve some of the issues before the contract expires.
