Seniors gather at Biloxi Civic Center for dance party and competition

It’s time to put on your boogie shoes because the seniors have officially hit the dance floor!

Hundreds of senior citizens from Harrison County gathered at the Biloxi Civic Center for a seniors dance party and competition.

Seniors were asked to register for the dance competition as a couple or a team in honor of Senior Health and Fitness Day.

The big smiles made it evident that the seniors had a great time dancing in many different styles to several different genres of music.

Putting on this fun event was a group effort by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors, the City of Biloxi, RSVP, and SMPDD. Information and Referral Specialist Jennifer DeWitt said, “It gets them out. It gets them moving…most importantly moving. It makes them socialize with others. You worry about that with seniors, you worry about them not getting out, not moving, not socializing, not having a good time, and it lets everybody know that they’re doing okay.”

Even though this was the first such event, they plan on making this an annual event because of the incredible success.
