Expert floral designer holds workshop in Biloxi

Spring is here and gardening enthusiasts turned to a Bay St. Louis floral designer for some early inspiration.

Martha Whitney Butler is a certified floral designer. She gave a public lecture at the MSU Extension Office in Biloxi this morning and demonstrated techniques based on sustainable floral design practices.

Her experience in art history and her use of antique and vintage floral containers creates unique designs.

Butler owns and operates the French Potager, a florist and gift shop in the Old Town District of Bay St. Louis. Associate MSU Extension Professor Dr. James Delprince said, “What we really love about what she is showing us is that it is sustainable and uses very little, if any, plastic at all in the floral arrangements. She also is teaching our attendees how to make floral designs that are not necessarily commercial but things that you can live with every day.”

In July, Butler will be inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers, the most prestigious floral art certification program in the U.S.
