92-Year-Old Runs Cross Country

Ernie Andrus just keeps on going. The 92-year-old vet running cross country ran eight miles through Gulfport this morning, adding to the total of 2,090 miles from his starting point in San Diego.
Ernie started his trek on the Mississippi Gulf Coast last week in Bay St. Louis and will continue through Gulfport this weekend. The inspirational runner is raising money to save a WWII vessel he helped return from Greece.
Andrus cannot believe how much support he has received, especially from the younger generation. “I get these people on the website saying that I’ve inspired them to go back to running or exercising. That gives me a good feeling. Hundreds of them, you know and then when I see these kids out waving flags, that does the heart good. Gotta let these little kids know this is not play, freedom isn’t free. They’re going to grow up someday. They’re going to have to keep this country free.”
Ernie Andrus will start back up near Walmart Lane in Gulfport Saturday morning and end at the Biloxi Lighthouse.[mappress mapid=”2108″]
