8/16 – Brittany’s “Slight Relief” Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

Hot and dry again for most of the day today. Focus late this afternoon and evening will be on convective development to our north and east, with short-range guidance identifying a zone of low-level convergence oriented NW to SE across central MS into SE MS.

Going into Wednesday through the end of the forecast period, eyes will again shift upstream over the mid south region. A frontal boundary will drift south over the next 48 hrs and will be the focus of storms late Wednesday and more so Thursday. Going into the long term, generally thinking it will start off on a wet note. At the surface, a weak frontal boundary will be across the region. Outside of the typical diurnally driven convection, a series of weak H5 impulses from the northwest will continue to move through the region helping enhance convection. Going into the weekend rain chances are mitigated just a bit as more subsidence in the mid and upper levels develops.
