7/6 – Payton’s Thursday Evening Forecast

Another typical July day in South Mississippi with afternoon showers and thunderstorms. This trend will continue into the weekend as an area of high pressure that was sitting directly overhead will continue to make its way to the east. The rain chances will be greatest morning into the afternoon hours, but we could see a couple of nights with showers and thunderstorms, especially Friday and Saturday nights. We are not expecting widespread severe weather, but a few storms could be strong producing heavy rain, lightning, gusty winds and potentially very small hail. The rain chances continue into the beginning of next week as the tropical airmass stays in the area. High pressure will began to strenghthen back into the area toward the middle of next week dropping rain chances slightly, but we could still see afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will continue to climb into the lower 90s everyday with heat index values near 100 degrees.
