72nd annual Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo kick off

The 72nd annual Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is back on the Coast and it’s better than ever.

This year, fishers both young and old gathered to try their luck at catching the biggest fish for a $25,000 purse. The four day event features live music, carnival rides, as well as more than 50 vendors.

Throughout the event, fishers will weigh their catch and prizes will be given daily. The grand prize winner will be announced on the last day of the event.

Rodeo President Richard Valdez says this is a long running tradition that will only stick around with community support. “You know last year we went through six days of rain and the people came out the last two days and really helped us. Last year, when they came out I think they saw what the rodeo was all about. A lot of them had forgotten so now they are all back and it’s what it’s going to take to keep the event going is the local community support.”

The rodeo lasts until the 7th. General admission is $5 and kids five and under get in free.
