6/30 – Payton’s Sunday Night Forecast

FORECAST: Summertime continues in South Mississippi with another hot and humid afternoon. The popup showers and t-storms have since cleared the area tonight, but a repeat is expected for your Monday. This pattern continues for most of the week with popup showers and t-storms possible, but not likely each afternoon. The temperatures will continue to climb into the lower to mid 90s by the end of the week. July 4th will be hot, humid with a low chance for a few t-storms.

SALINITY UPDATE: While the salinity remains very low in the Mississippi Sound there have been good trends over the past 4-5 days. It’s too early to say if this trend will continue, but this is what we want to see! Also some good news…the discharge from the Bonnet Carre Spillway is decreasing as well. We still have a long way to go, but this could be the beginning of seeing improvements in our waters. In the meantime stay out of the waters that remain closed as harmful algae is still being reported along many beaches.

TROPICS: There is not tropical development expected over the next five days.
