5/28 – Rob’s “Memorial Day” Morning Forecast

Subtropical Storm Alberto in the northeast Gulf is expected to make landfall along the Florida panhandle today with the remnants then getting pulled northward across the southeast states and into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes region by mid-week in advance of an approaching cold front now moving out of the western CONUS and across the northern Plains.

The local forecast area will be on the periphery of Alberto for the next couple of days. The main impacts of this will be increased cloud cover and higher rain chances…especially coastal Mississippi.

As the remnants of Albert make their way northward, upper level ridging to our west will nose into the lower Mississippi Valley region for the mid and late week period resulting in higher temperatures and decreased rain chances. The best chance for convection during this period will be across eastern sections of the forecast area where the influence of the upper ridge will be the weakest. Over the weekend, upper level troughing over the eastern and southeast CONUS will allow for a cold front to advance toward the Gulf Coast. This should lead to an increased chance for showers and thunderstorms by Sunday.
