Today is the day that city officials and those who value the historical significance of Downtown Biloxi have been waiting on: the first day of work on the renovations to the Saenger Theatre.
This is only the beginning stage for renovations as this rich piece of history looks to become a staple in the community again.
The city expects the construction to be fully completed in about a year. The work includes a new roof, H-VAC system, fly tower, and some other structural changes inside and out.
Once they have completed work on the outside, they will move inside. Bill Raymond with the City of Biloxi said, “We are thrilled that finally this project is moving forward. There is a ton of community support behind it. People come in for a show and they are going to stay and have dinner. They might go to a lounge and have a drink and so it definitely is going to be an economic catalyst for downtown.”
Currently the city is continuing to evaluate the proposals for those who want to manage the theatre once construction is completed next year.
