It’s that time of the year again, men running the streets of Downtown Gulfport in pink dresses!
Yes, we’re talking about the ‘Pink Dress Fun Run.’ This event is a ‘Carter’s Champions Real Men Wear Pink Fundraiser’ put on by one of the ‘Real Men Wear Pink’ candidates.
One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society to advance treatments and raise awareness for breast cancer. The party begins at 11 a.m. at Chandeleur Island Brewing Company and ends at 8 p.m.
Folks can expect music, drawings, food, and beer. Event Organizer Liz Gaulke says this event is one she says she hopes will continue to spread the importance of healthcare. “The idea is still to raise money for breast cancer. People say why are you creating awareness, everyone knows about awareness for breast cancer but really they don’t or more women will get their mammograms, more men would report to their doctors when they knew something wasn’t right. So people still don’t do that and we need to keep getting that word out that early detection is key, no cancer, but especially breast cancer, doesn’t have to be a death sentence.”
As a tribute and in honor of Kipp Gregory, John Carter, co-founder of Carter’s Champions and a four year ‘Real Men Wear Pink’ ambassador, will donate the rest of the proceeds he raises this month to Kipp’s campaign in an effort to make Kipp the number one ‘Real Men Wear Pink Fundraiser’ on the Coast for the American Cancer Society this year.
