It’s still hot, but when cold weather makes its way to the area, fire prevention experts say now is a good time to make sure your home is safe.
Fire protection devices like a smoke alarm will automatically detect and warn you if there’s smoke and can save your life in the event of a fire.
Biloxi Fire Department Battalion Chief Vincent Payne says updating fire alarms is a vital part to a family’s safety and the department can help. “You definitely want to check your smoke alarms because that’s the first thing as far as safety in your home. That’s the first warning you’ll get if there’s a fire in the house. You want to make sure your batteries are up to date. And right now we use 10 year lithium batteries so if you have a nine volt battery smoke alarm if you call me and live in the city of Biloxi we can come and change that out for free.”
