It’s ‘National Recovery Month’ and tomorrow morning in Ocean Springs those battling with addiction and mental health issues will be given an opportunity in a safe place to find help.
The ‘Ocean Springs Rally for Recovery’ brings together mental health and addiction programs from across the nation to both network with each other and offer information on resources available for combating mental health and addiction issues.
There will be 55 programs present from 13 states. They will have food, live music, raffles, and much more.
Organizer Greg Bufkin used to battle with addiction and that’s how his ministry and the ‘Rally for Recovery’ day all came to be. “I battled with an addiction to prescription pain medication for 13 years. I have been three and half years sober now and I watched as addiction destroyed my life and destroyed my family’s life. When I came out of rehab we began to realize that there was a big need to help family members who are struggling with addiction. We just kind of started spreading out and building relationships so we can help those programs network with each other and be a little more effective and efficient in the work that they do.”
The third annual ‘Rally for Recovery’ is taking place tomorrow at Marshall Park in Ocean Springs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
