8/14 – Rob Knight’s “Cold Front” Morning Forecast

Several different variables and associated numbers this morning show elevating moisture values. This is off the chart for this time of the year. This will help in the first problem that could occur today which will be isolated flooding of a few areas where thunderstorms set up, as they will have very little movement. With very little storm motion, efficient rain makers could dump a lot of rain leading to localized flash flooding. Another issue could be the potential for downburst activity which could cause a few of the strongest thunderstorms to become severe with damaging winds being the primary hazard. A heat advisory continues for the interior counties to around the I-20 area until sufficient cloud coverage and rainfall drops this off.

The SPC has the area under a marginal risk for excessive rainfall and severe thunderstorm activity respectively.
