The American Sailing Association has named July ‘Learn to Sail’ Month. It’s an educational campaign set to push the idea that sailing is for everyone.
It’s also to help the environment. For every new sailing lesson purchased in July at one of their 350 certified schools nationwide, the American Sailing Association will make a donation to Sailors for the Sea and their mission to save the oceans.
One of those certified schools is right here on the Gulf Coast: North Star Sailing Charters. They offer sailing lessons from beginners to advanced sailors as well as charter trips.
North Star Sailing Owner Jim King says there is nowhere to sail like the Gulf Coast! “The Mississippi Gulf Coast, first off, is a beautiful place to sail. You can sail year round. It doesn’t get too cold in the winter. The waters are protected by those barrier islands so there is plenty of room to sail, lots of cool places to go. All of the towns have marinas. Plus, we see dolphins and pelicans, seagulls, fish, lots of wildlife out of water. It is just a nice place to sail.”
