Mississippi launches new rural healthcare initiative statewide
Mississippi’s new rural healthcare initiatives are now rolling out across the state.
The state has created a rural health transformation program office, which reports to the office of the governor, along with a new public website to track progress and funding opportunities.
Officials say the program will focus on expanding access to care, strengthening the rural healthcare workforce, and improving infrastructure, especially in underserved communities.
The plan also includes telehealth expansion and a statewide health information system.
State leaders say the goal is long-term improvements, not short-term fixes, using federal funding to modernize healthcare across rural areas.
The new office will be led by project director Richard Grimes.
