The race for Mississippi Secretary of State is heating up. State Senator Michael Watson is challenging his republican opponent Sam Britton, to join him for a debate in each of Mississippi’s four congressional districts. Watson issued the challenge after reporting he was the only candidate for Secretary of State to attend last Friday’s debate hosted by the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans and the Lincoln County Republican Women. Watson currently serves as state senator for District 51 in Jackson County. Britton has served as the Public Service Commissioner for Mississippi’s Southern District since 2015. Whichever of the two wins the Aug. 6 Republican primary, will go on to face the democratic challenger in the November general election.
