Tense moments for a Pearl River County Sheriff’s deputy after exchanging fire with a man at a traffic stop.
Earlier today, a deputy responded to a call about someone making suicidal threats and believed to be armed.
Shortly after 3 p.m., one of the deputies saw a person driving a car on White Chapel Road matching that description. The deputy pursued the vehicle to the intersection of Anchor Lake Road and Lumpkin Road where the suspect had crashed.
As the deputy pulled up to the car, he was fired upon. The deputy then returned fire and struck the driver several times.
News 25 was told 26-year-old Adam Michael McCoy transported to the hospital where he later died of apparent gunshot wounds.
The deputy was not injured in the shooting.
