Southern Miss ready to defend title in 2019 Conference USA Tournament

The Southern Miss Baseball team is less than 24 hours away from defending its Conference USA tournament championship at MGM Park in Biloxi.

The Golden Eagles will lead off their run through the eight-team double-elimination field against Rice at 12:30 pm tomorrow. USM is a two-seed in this year’s tournament, after being the top-ranked team the past two seasons. And after a disappointing finish to the regular season, the black and gold are ready to make those struggles a thing of the past and use them as motivation.

Right fielder Matt Wallner says, “We just pressed. We made some mistakes we hadn’t made all year and just didn’t get the clutch hits and we’ve just got to reset and get back to the middle of the year, the beginning of the year, when we were hot and just had the confidence all the way.”

The C-USA tournament will conclude with Sunday’s championship game.
