Wade In the Water: Civil Rights Activists Remember Biloxi Beach Wade-In 60 Years Later

Wade in the water. That’s just what a group of courageous African-Americans did 60 years ago as they defied the rules of segregation back in 1959, and ventured out to Biloxi Beach. Some of those brave souls will be on hand Tuesday night at an event called “1959 Wade-In Protest: The Roll Call,” and everyone is invited. Doors open at the Biloxi Civic Center at 5 p.m. The event is set to begin at 5:30 pm. Actual participants of the wade-ins will be on hand and featured speakers. There will also be a panel discussion. Event organizers say it’s important for us, and future generations, to know our history so the negative events won’t be repeated. News 25’s Vickie Bailey will cover the event Tuesday night, and have coverage on WXXV NBC in Tuesday night’s newscasts and at 5 and 6 a.m. in Wednesday morning’s edition of News 25 Today. The story will also air on WXXV FOX in Wednesday night’s 9 p.m. newscast and Wednesday morning at 7 and 8 a.m. on WXXV Fox News 25 Today’s newscasts.
