Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann made his lieutenant governor campaign announcement in Gulfport this afternoon.
Current Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves cannot run for a third term, meaning this position will be filled by someone else. Hosemann is currently in his third term as secretary of state.
The lt. governor has multiple roles which include dealing the state’s budget, senate committee leaders, and passing laws. “There are things we have a great interest in. Getting everyone educated, workforce development, our teachers need a pay raise not in election years. We have to have strong infrastructure. When I look around, I have been in the capitol for 12 years, one of the most important people in there is the lieutenant governor.”
Party primaries will take place in August. The general election is in November.
