$10K awarded to Mississippi Aquarium

Construction is moving swimmingly and in just a few months the doors will open at the Mississippi Aquarium as they stand on their three pillars of education, community, and conservation.

With those education and community pillars in mind, a new partnership arose this morning between the aquarium and Harrah’s Gulf Coast and Caesars Foundation.

Harrah’s and Caesars granted the aquarium $10,000 to be used for educational programs. This grant is going to help kick start a virtual learning program within the aquarium.

The aquarium is going to purchase Chromebooks to be used as offsite tools that livestream back to education workshops and classes on site.

This will help the students who cannot make it on campus still be a part of the aquatic fun in a high tech way. Mississippi Aquarium President/CEO David Kimmel said, “It’s great to show pictures, but to be able to show live animals with their trainers and allow the students to communicate with the trainers and ask questions and learn is the next best thing to being hands-on. This opportunity today on the Chromebooks that Harrah’s supports really goes a long way in promoting that education.”

Harrah’s Gulf Coast General Manager Jonathan Jones said, “We are proud to be here. We are proud to support the community. We are proud to represent Caesars Entertainment and the Caesars Foundation. It’s really critical that we make the communities that we live and work in a vibrant place to be and you know, this is a great fit for us.”

The Mississippi Aquarium is set to open on April 30th.
