1/16 – The Chief’s “Morning Wintry Mix” Tuesday Morning Forecast
The arctic front has started to creep slowly to the east as a WINTRY MIX is occurring in south Mississippi a couple of hours prior to sunrise. The area is under cold air advection and temperatures have dropped to freezing or slightly below.
Temperatures will struggle to warm into the 40s this afternoon especially with a strong north wind gusting into the 20 mph range. A HARD FREEZE and WIND CHILL WARNING is in effect for tonight into Wednesday morning. Temperatures will drop to 17 degrees tonight with more than likely several locations hitting new RECORD LOW numbers. Temperatures will once again struggle to warm up tomorrow with the continued cold-air advection.
After a frigid morning, temperatures will moderate into the mid to upper 40s on Wednesday, resulting in a pretty impressive diurnal spread for this part of the country. Another system will bring rain to the area Thursday night into Friday with yet another blast of cold air this weekend…just not as cold as tonight though.
