1/15 – Payton’s Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

Extensive cloud cover will continue through this afternoon and will keep temperatures chilly. By this evening the clouds should start to break down and make way for a cold ight with lows in the upper 30s. Wednesday should bring more sunshine and warmer temperatures. Thursday a boundary moves through the area and there will be a few showers in the area.

The main concerns with this forecast involves a couple of frontal boundaries that will be moving into the region towards the weekend. Initial front is of Pacific origin but taps into some polar air in the Plains States. This brings about a wind shift and isolated possibility for t-storms Thursday and Friday. While this takes place, an Arctic cold front takes shape over the central Plains that moves through the area Saturday. Strong frontal forcing and fairly adequate moisture in place should produce more t-storm activity.Depending on timing of the moisture moving out of the area early Sunday prior to sunrise, the possibility for a light dusting of snow could occur to our north and west. If any snow does occur, it should not last long and only be a light dusting in SW Mississippi possibly spilling into LA near the state line. No snow is expected in South Mississippi at the moment. Despite the eventual outcome, Sunday will be very cold and windy with light to moderate freeze conditions likely Sunday night into Monday morning. Expect windchills to be in the teens Monday morning.
