08/01 – Steve’s Midday Forecast and Tropical Update

Good afternoon!

Expect the temperatures to warm up quite nicely in southern Mississippi this afternoon with heat index values approaching the 100-degree mark in places. There will be very little help from precip today but great rain chances as we head into Tuesday.

The tropics are also busy with Invest 97-L in the Caribbean Sea to the south of Jamaica. We’ll keep a close watch on this system as it’s expected to become a tropical storm tonight or tomorrow. In any case, storm or not, it’s not expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico at this point at all. Good news!
