Zika Case Reported In Harrison County
The first case of travel-related Zika on the Coast has been reported in Harrison County.
In this case, the South Mississippi resident had recently traveled to Honduras. This is one of three new cases of travel-related Zika to be reported in Mississippi, bringing the total to 14.
These new travel-related cases come amidst growing concern of the possibility of domestic mosquitoes carrying the virus in Florida with several cases of non-travel related Zika being investigated there.
Zika is especially concerning to expectant mothers. The virus is linked to severe birth defects in a developing fetus.
