Wounded vets hook some big fish on the Coast
A group of wounded veterans are going home with some pretty big fish.
After coming from all over the United States to take a deep sea fishing trip across the coastal waters, the veterans returned from their excursion this afternoon. For some on the trip it was their first time fishing in the Mississippi Sound.
Twenty-year Air Force Veteran Dwayne Menard tells News 25 the shark he reeled in today was the biggest fish he has ever caught in his life. “I’ve got eight out of ten war symptoms, physical, mental, PTSD, you name it. Getting out and meeting these guys, I’m usually trapped in my own little bubble in my own little world, but getting out and seeing some of these guys and the warriors, it really helps just to get out and have fun.”
Each veteran went home with two to three fish. The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization helping one hundred thousand veterans across the nation.
