World Down Syndrome Awareness Day

Students across the nation were wearing crazy socks for World Down Syndrome Awareness Day.

Every year, World Down Syndrome Day is held on the 21st day of the third month because the genetic disorder is the result of a third copy of chromosome 21.

Students at Popp’s Ferry Elementary School got in on the fun with some crazy, bright, and mismatched socks. Crystal James with Popp’s Ferry Elementary said, “We are all about inclusion and trying to include everyone into our school family. When we can bring awareness to kids who have special needs or kids who might be different than us we help them realize everyone is alike. They might have differences, but we can all find similarities.”
