Woolmarket City Center expansion
New features are in the works for the Woolmarket City Center. Residents can expect new amenities as part of an expansion project.
Months ago, a library and city community center opened up in the Woolmarket area and already Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich plans to expand the facility for those residents. City of Biloxi Engineer Christy LeBatard said, “He wanted to be able to provide a place the community can go to have events close to home.”
The Woolmarket City Center already has a library for everyone to enjoy. However, the expansion includes a 25 by 50 foot addition that comes with a stage and a dance floor. “They will be able to have weddings and parties. The building already has a kitchen so its equipped for any kind of event that needs to happen.”
This $250,000 project will come from bond money. As far as what’s next for the expansion, the city will open the process to receive bids on April 10th. “We will, of course, review them. It usually takes us about two months to get through that process at the most. So, that will put us hopefully starting construction sometime at the end of the summer.”
After the expansion is complete, whether it’s stopping by to pick up a good book or coming over for the occasional two-step, the people of Woolmarket will love the new amenities. “So, these are fun projects for us. We feel like what we do makes an impact in the community, a positive impact for those residents out there.”
