Wood Burning Stove Causes Fire
Flames poured through the roof of a home in Saucier this morning. Officials say the cause was a wood burning stove.
At about 10:15 this morning, the Harrison County Fire Services responded to a call from a concerned neighbor about a fire on Bill Bond Road off of Highway 67. They were able to quickly douse the flames. Only a portion of the roof and wall were damaged. The owner was not home at the time and the stove was not lit. Fire officials advise extra precaution when installing this type of stove in the home. Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan said, “Being cautious and knowing how. When you put in a wood burning stove, our recommendation is always to have somebody that knows what they’re doing when they build these and put them in because it’s somewhat of a specialty to make sure that you get the right clearance around the stove piping to exit the house.”
Officials say the damage could have been much worse had it gone unnoticed by neighbors.
