Woman races through Gulfport, causes accidents before crashing

A woman raced up and down Highway 49 in Gulfport, causing two traffic collisions before hitting a curb and disabling her vehicle.

The incident happened during the lunch hour in Orange Grove, ending right in front of the neighborhood Walmart.

Nicole O’Neal was charged with reckless driving, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, no driver’s license and DUI other as a result of the incident.

According to Gulfport Police spokesman Jason Ducre’, the O’Neal raced past an officer on Kelly Avenue in a white Chevy Equinox. The officer tried to pull the woman over, but she kept going. Gulfport officers do not pursue vehicles for a traffic violation.

She later was seen driving northbound on Highway 49 at a high rate of speed, where she caused an accident near Duckworth Road and again near Orange Grove Road before hitting the curb and damaging her tire.

O’Neal then left her vehicle and began running.

Two female police officers who were at the scene of a minor traffic accident heard the second traffic collision, saw her vehicle hit the curb and then saw O’Neal start running.

They ran after the woman and tackled her to the ground and took her into custody.

One witness said the woman was driving so fast, “I’ve never had my car shake so hard.”
