Winter Storm Prep: Must-Have Items for Shoppers

Expecting a winter ice storm, shoppers are flocking to prepare their homes. Hardware stores like True Value in Gulfport are experiencing an increase in foot traffic.

According to Jeff McCormick, a staff member at True Value, foot traffic has increased by about 30-40%. “If its exposed PVC pipe you need to get some pipe insulation and wrap it, if your faucets are sticking out of the wall like most houses you need [outdoor faucet covers] which are easy to install to keep your pipes from freezing and breaking,” says McCormick  “and a lot of people don’t think about their plants, but they should.”

McCormick says most shoppers are buying heat lamp bulbs, faucet covers, and foam insulation, which are flying off the shelves. With the storm expected to hit overnight, many residents are making sure they’re prepared beforehand.
